In the E-Prime Device Properties page you can indicate whether Presses only, Releases only or Presses and Releases should be returned to your paradigm script. The response box appears as COM4 on our control room paradigm computers. Moreover, do I need to do anything specific in the logger that is placed after the sketchpad to log the SR response box presses? In E-Prime mode, the response box sends a continuous stream of characters at characters per second. In programmed scripts, it’s best to use bit tests to determine if any button has been pressed. We use currently OpenSesame. OpenSesame is among them.

Is it supported by opensesame? With this mode, the button box can be used to time experiment events rather than relying on the timers in the computer. Of course many other patterns are possible, if the subject is pressing more than one button simultaneously.
I have defined the Allowed responses and time out in Gesponse Box Plug-in, the device name is autodetect, but when my experiment runs, no responses were collected.
No character is sent on button release. If multiple buttons are pushed, the bit for each button will be set to one. Just to be perfectly sure, if you click on the ‘Edit script’ button, does it look something like this?
Hi Frouke, Although we have no experience in collecting respnose using a joystick or gamepad ourselves, other OpenSesame users have successfully implemented this. The final 4 characters give the time of the press or release since the Reaction Timer was last reset in milliseconds.

Bits indicate the port number, in our case always 0. The second character is divided into the following: Could OpenSesame collect the responses without the E-Prime? There are a number of other XID commands that can be send to the response box in this mode. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons! There’s much bigger issues in the world, I know.
I am trying to collect a rating using a Cedrus response box and a sketchpad to present the response options. Moreover, do I need to do anything specific in the logger that is placed after the sketchpad to log the SR response box presses?
July edited July in OpenSesame. Hi Sebastian, the problem is solved. In E-Prime mode, the response box sends a continuous stream of characters at characters per second. cedrue
I have defined the buttons 1 and 3 as Allowed responses 1;3but all the 8 buttons are active and collect responses. It can also be reset to zero by sending a command e5 from the computer through the serial port.
The bits of each character indicate the current state of the buttons. Although we have no experience in collecting responses using a joystick or gamepad ourselves, other OpenSesame users have successfully implemented this. The script looks fine, yes.
First, you set the timeout towhich means that you will get a timeout response after ms, regardless of whether you have actually pressed a button.
The use of time stamped button responses means that your application does not have to check the serial port so often to get accurate response timing.
In this mode, the cedrrus box generates a single character for ANY change in button state – both button presses and button releases generate a character.

In the E-Prime Device Properties page you can indicate whether Presses only, Releases only or Presses and Releases should be returned to your paradigm script. There is no way dedrus tell if 2 buttons are held down at the same time – you will never get any response other than the 6 shown below. But then again, I’d need a Cedrus box to actually test it.
The simple coding for single button presses is as follows:. Second, there have been problems with the SR box plug-in in the past, so please make sure that you’re running the stable 0.
